    The representation K-Pop needs!

A fifth-generation boy group has sparked massive reactions online with their progressive representation of disability during a recent live stage.

The group in question is Big Ocean, a nearly two-year old boy group formed under Parastar Entertainment.

The group has released their third mini album, The Greatest Battle, which captures their fierce battles against prejudice since their debut. Recently, they appeared on Show Champion to promote one of the double title tracks, “Cold Moon,” and wowed the audience with their live performance skills.

However, the most buzz-worthy part about their performance turned out to be the dancers. Viewers were quick to notice that the group had two wheelchair dancers performing on stage with them. Not only were they seamlessly incorporated in the choreography blocking, but they were the only two dancers remaining with the Big Ocean members till the very end of the stage, down to the ending fairy moment.

Today Big Ocean at Show Champion with their 1st music show doing promotion for the other title track ‘Cold Moon’.
People are sleeping on them, because we need this kinda of representation in the kpop industry #BigOcean #빅오션#ShowChampion #쇼챔피언 pic.twitter.com/aAi84SFTmy

This performance has since sparked major reactions online with netizens calling it representation of disability done right. It coming from Big Ocean, a group where all three members are hearing-impaired, also presented a solidarity that many mainstream K-Pop fans wouldn’t have seen coming.

this is what disabled solidarity looks like. Big Ocean is not only breaking ground for Deaf representation in music but their existence opens doors to other disabled artists, even directly employing them in this case. https://t.co/ksbZHrZOla

i was in a dance class with a wheelchair user before. it was their first class and they kept apologising bc the choreo needed to be adapted for them and they couldn’t keep up. i hope they see more things like this so they know that dancing is for them too ♡ https://t.co/tnHqYZZziK

Now that Big Ocean has shown the way, it remains to be seen if the K-Pop industry will follow their footsteps into more inclusive representation.
