She has never shied away from making her politics known.

A fifth-gen female idol has gone viral over her unexpected, politically charged remark about ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

The idol in question is Chanelle from the group FIFTY FIFTY.

Recently, Chanelle was communicating with fans through a messaging platform when she started talking about her coffee preferences. The idol stated she had started liking hot coffee, adding, “No ice.” Her follow-up message read, “Know what I’m sayin’?”

The US is currently witnessing an unprecedented public pushback against ICE, especially after multiple citizens were shot to death by its agents. Amid this political scenario, slogans like “No ICE” and “ICE out” have become popular among the general public, voicing their dissent.

Massive anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis today draws thousands despite -10 degree weather. Their statewide strike calls for no work, no school, no shopping, and ICE out of Minnesota FOR GOOD. Cheering you on from Illinois! pic.twitter.com/yLPXAGjMQm

Netizens, including non-fans, have praised Chanelle for taking a stance, especially given the reluctance of K-Pop industry as a whole to steer clear of any kind of sociopolitical commentary.

I love how Chanelle never afraid to say what she wants and that’s why I love her 😙 https://t.co/aG1OvYhm3o pic.twitter.com/uQxXZR0WYh

what a queen 🤍 other kpop idols should follow suit like it’s really not that hard to voice your support for various issues even if you’re not allowed to do it openly https://t.co/ZXzzj0frfK

That was clever ! I am glad to hear an American idol speak about this even though its a very touchy subject (knowing it’s usually not allowed for idols to talk politics) https://t.co/dnCor8HLEs

This is not Chanelle’s first time communicating her stance on important global issues despite the possibility of pushback. Previously, she went viral for mentioning Palestine during a livestream.
