EJAE is facing criticism following her involvement in BLACKPINK’s latest album.
The singing voice behind Rumi in Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters rose to wider recognition after co-writing “GOLDEN,” a track from the film that topped charts in both South Korea and the United States.
Before her on-screen breakthrough, she worked in the K-Pop industry as a producer and songwriter. EJAE famously produced some huge hits, including Red Velvet’s “Psycho.”
Fans recently noticed her name in the credits for BLACKPINK’s new song “Champion,” where she is listed as a composer. The controversy stems from the fact that the track also credits Dr. Luke.

Dr. Luke has remained a divisive figure in the industry due to a long legal battle with singer Kesha. In 2014, Kesha accused him of sexual assault and abuse, allegations he has consistently denied. The two reached a settlement in 2023 after years of lawsuits.
BLACKPINK previously faced backlash for working with the producer. Now, many have turned their attention to EJAE.
EJAE, the voice of Rumi and songwriter of Sony’s “KPop Demon Hunters” has written new music for Blackpink with well-known abuser Dr. Luke, after signing to his label.

Meanwhile, some argue that she may not have worked with Dr. Luke directly and that production credits can be added later in the process without all writers collaborating together.
EJAE has always said in her interviews that she doesn’t like doing sessions on studios because she doesn’t want her melodies to get influenced by someone else’s while making a song. I don’t think she directly cooperated/collaborated with Dr. Luke in making this song at all. https://t.co/C5xPsux6Jt
