A Korean singer who has paused her activities and is in self-reflection amid an infidelity controversy is facing a lawsuit related to an alleged affair.
According to a report by Star News on the 3rd, the Civil Division 7 of the Seongnam Branch of Suwon District Court is scheduled to hold the first hearing in April for a damages claim lawsuit filed by Mrs. A, the wife of a married man, against singer Sook Haeng.
Mrs. A filed the complaint against Sook Haeng in September last year, but Sook Haeng initially showed no response, neither hiring a lawyer nor submitting a civil lawsuit response. After the court notified a ruling in January, Sook Haeng retained a lawyer and submitted a power of attorney, causing the ruling date to be canceled and the trial to resume.
The affair allegations emerged last December on JTBC’s Crime Chief. At that time, Mrs. A revealed on the show that she was shocked by her husband Mr. B’s affair, naming the other party as someone who escaped anonymity through a cable TV competition and was currently participating in a trot singing contest.
When claims arose that the other party was Sook Haeng, Mr. B clarified on Lee Jin Ho’s YouTube channel, “I told Sook Haeng at our first meeting about my existing family. Our marriage was already on the rocks, and we had been separated since February, so everything was more or less settled.” He added, “Even during the separation, we discussed divorce twice. Our marriage has been broken for years,” asserting that Sook Haeng is the victim.
Sook Haeng also spoke on Crime Chief, expressing, “I believed the other party’s marriage had already broken down, started dating, introduced him to my parents as someone promising a future, and was told we would marry once legal procedures were completed.” She said she ended the relationship after learning that Mr. B’s statements were false and apologized to Mrs. A. She emphasized, “I have no intention of avoiding legal action. While trying to be forgiven and revealing the truth, I plan to pursue legal measures against Mr. B, who deceived me and caused this situation, including claiming compensation to hold him clearly responsible.”
Sook Haeng first gained recognition by finishing sixth in TV Chosun‘s Miss Trot in 2019. She appeared in MBN‘s Active Singer King 3 last December but has since halted activities and withdrawn.
