Premiere Watch: Still Shining
by stroopwafel
Time slot: Friday (two episodes per week)
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Romance, youth
Episode count: 12
Global streamer: Netflix
Reasons to watch: For our last romance till April, JTBC is giving us young love, missed chances, and a reunion in Still Shining.
Jinyoung and Kim Min-joo star as our protagonists, and their relationship dates back to their high school years. It’s as teens that they first fall for each other, but like many other first loves, the two eventually find that life takes them in different directions. While we have to wait to see the exact reasons around their breakup, the drama picks up again when our leads are in their late 20s. Despite having seen a decade pass between them, the two cross paths by chance and recognize each other immediately. Now as adults, they make the choice to give their love another chance and to build a future together.
Still Shining‘s teasers have focused on promoting the show as a soft, poetic drama about finding a ray of light in the darkness through the person you love. This drama marks the return of writer Lee Sook-yeon after 2020’s A Piece of Your Mind, and if Still Shining is anything like her previous work, we can look forward to an introspective romance that balances sweet and sad notes. (Plus, I can never say no to a new Jinyoung drama.)
