Byun Woo-seok takes IU as his bride in the Perfect Crown
by lovepark
MBC has dropped the first teaser for upcoming fantasy romance Perfect Crown showcasing a regal Byun Woo-seok (Lovely Runner) and his equally stunning bride IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines). In this alternate history, South Korea still has a monarch, and the grand prince ties the knot with a chaebol commoner in a contract marriage.
With the gravitas befitting a ruler, Grand Prince Yi-ahn (Byun Woo-seok) enters the scene with the foreboding narration that the king has been overshadowed by him. Choking the queen dowager’s father Jo Jae-yoon (Queen Mantis), the grand prince asks if he is afraid that he will become king. As the second son, the grand prince cannot inherit the throne while his young nephew sits upon it, and his sister-in-law, Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang, played by Gong Seung-yeon (My Lovely Journey), is determined to keep it that way.
For the prince, his title feels more like a restriction — a sign of danger and loneliness — so it catches him by surprise when chaebol heiress Sung Hee-joo (IU) approaches him for exactly that. With an expression lacking any warmth, he accepts her marriage proposal and orders her to prepare to become the grand prince’s wife. Unfortunately for the couple, life in the palace seems to be full of enemies as the queen dowager ominously says that patience is required for the hunt.
Despite the contractual nature of their union, the grand prince falls in love as he dances with his bride and gingerly tucks her hair behind her ear. He asks if she is afraid and then tells her that this is for her. As the teaser shows them dancing freely on a rooftop without an audience, it cuts to a final shot of the grand prince bleeding from a wound on his forehead.
Directed by PD Park Joon-hwa (Love Your Enemy, Alchemy of Souls) and PD Bae Hee-young (Love Your Enemy, Cinderella at 2AM) with scripts by Yoo Ji-won, the twelve-episode rom-com premieres April 10 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
