Twenty-Eight 9+ Rated Songs From KAT-TUN (Finally Available to Stream!)

Though KAT-TUN were not the first J-pop act I ever listened to, I credit them for fully making me a J-pop fan. They have released some of the best music I’ve ever heard and I’m delighted that that music is now finally available for everyone to stream worldwide. If you’ve been feeling down about 2026’s offerings so far and have never explored KAT-TUN’s discography, prepare to have them soundtrack the rest of your year.

Rather than go through their entire 300+ song catalog, I decided to spotlight the songs I’ve personally rated a “9” or higher. With that said, there are SO many other bangers and highlights on their singles and albums so if you like these tracks I’d highly recommend doing a deep dive.

    Real Face (2006)

Talk about an iconic debut! This song has aged so well and is an undisputed classic within J-pop. It’s such a thrilling bit of anthemic pop/rock, back when bands cared about being big and extra with their music.

    Rating: 10

    Don’t U Ever Stop (2008)

KAT-TUN doing a Michael Jackson homage is not something that happened nearly as often as it should’ve, but they got it right with this absolutely incredible single (and music video!). It’s so funky and the guitar crunch is ultra-satisfying.

    Rating: 10

    Rescue (2009)

I’ve already written a lengthy “legendary songs” post about this so I’m not sure there’s much more to say. Their best song ever?

    Rating: 10

    Change Ur World (2010)

A big rock banger to close out this era of KAT-TUN before they moved into something even better.

    Rating: 9

    Ultimate Wheels (2011)

Led by an ornate strings section, Ultimate Wheels melds the rock of their early years with the more theatrical textures of this era. To me, this kicks off their most fruitful period (2011-2015), which is also one of the strongest runs of any act ever.

    Rating: 9.5

    Make-Or-Break (2011)

Ah, the beatbox is back, joined by one of the funkiest synth loops of their career. It’s so fun and retro!

    Rating: 9.5

    White (2011)

This is quintessential J-pop to me. The melodies unfold with such purpose and sense of storytelling and the instrumental adds anthemic heft. It feels very anime in the best way possible.

    Rating: 9.5

    Run For You (2011)

That opening synth line is pure ear candy and the song only accelerates from there. A defining single, I’d say.

    Rating: 9.75

    Cosmic Child (2011)

The title pretty much says it all. This is spacey and synthy and undeniable awesome.

    Rating: 9.5

    Lock On (2012)

Such a killer rock song. I love the punchy production and the chorus is absolutely massive.

    Rating: 9.5

    One Day (2012)

This nails the anthemic sound KAT-TUN do so well. I’ve been obsessed with the layered vocal melodies in the chorus for over a decade now and it still sounds as enticing today.

    Rating: 9.5

    Kusabi (2013)

A beloved fan-favorite for a reason. This is beguiling pop music – melodically perfect with payoff after payoff. It’s one of their most iconic songs in my opinion.

    Rating: 10

    Fire And Ice (2013)

The chorus! The chorus is IMMENSE! It’s like a dance-rock opera!!

    Rating: 9.75

    4U (2013)

The platonic ideal of a fan song, meaning its saccharine and sweet but also buoyed by incredible melodies and a brisk pace. As always, the chorus is brilliant.

    Rating: 9.25

    Phoenix (2013)

Maybe their most operatic track? They bring the full bombast of an orchestra to this one and the result is stunning.

    Rating: 9.75

    Face To Face (2013)

Previewing the awesome Dead Or Alive that would come two years later, Face To Face injects a sense of symphony to the group’s pulsing electro sound.

    Rating: 9.75

    In Fact (2014)

Another electro dance track with incredible stomping energy. I love the repeated vocal hook in the verses and the explosive chorus that follows.

    Rating: 9.5

    Believe In Myself (2014)

There’s this little guitar flourish that wraps up each chorus and I think it might be my favorite individual sound of any 2010s track. This has such a brisk energy and anthemic heft. One of my most played songs ever, honestly.

    Rating: 10

    Dangerous (2014)

Pure funk goodness. It’s very SHINee-coded, which is always a good thing.

    Rating: 9

    Come Here (2014)

For some reason, this has always reminded me of something an SM group might have recorded around this time. It’s on the brighter side for KAT-TUN, bringing a delicious dose of power pop.

    Rating: 9.5

    Triangle (2014)

My favorite b-side from the group? I’ve written about it on the blog before and there’s a reason for that. It’s just pure guitar-powered bombast in the best way. The chorus and ensuing guitar solo have etched themselves in my own musical history. Perfection.

    Rating: 10

    Fake (2014)

I love when KAT-TUN targets the dancefloor and this standout album track has a thumping energy that’s impossible to resist.

    Rating: 9.25

    Emerald (Kamenashi solo) (2014)

Ah, that opening piano riff is just transcendent. This is the kind of sparkling, emotional EDM I adore. The chorus is such a moment and Kamenashi’s voice pulls it off perfectly.

    Rating: 9.5

    Hide And Seek (2014)

Rounding out my 9+ highlights from this killer album, Hide & Seek merges KAT-TUN’s ultra-dramatic (almost symphonic!) sound with a pulsing dancefloor drive.

    Rating: 9.5

    Dead Or Alive (2015)

Oh my god, can I even explain how epic this song is? The opening alone is like a full-on piece of cinema and the track just continues to grow and blossom with more and more grandeur. It’s a stunning highlight in their discography.

    Rating: 10

    Race Goes On (2015)

This is my kind of chugging dance track. What can I say? The group knows what I love. Just listen to the way that chorus opens and soars!

    Rating: 9.5

    Ask Yourself (2018)

Now we’re getting into music I’ve actually reviewed on the blog in real time. This tries on a house beat to great success. It’s their last 9+ rated single for me.

    Rating: 9.25

    Wonderful World (Kamenashi solo) (2018)

Kamenashi seems to be a fan of these bounding pop/rock anthems and this is also a sound I love so they always work for me. This is one of his best.

    Rating: 9
