The ever-prolific Xdinary Heroes have another mini album lurking around the corner and are teasing it today with pre-release X room. I really enjoyed October’s ICU and hope that the group’s music will continue in that vein. X room is a very different beast, but its more reserved sound makes for a decent teaser.
With band music so popular at the moment, it becomes more difficult for a group like Xdinary Heroes to stand out. From my vantage point, their strongest calling card is their quirkiness. A track like X room is very pretty and well-executed, but threatens to sound like everyone else at the moment (most notably their agency seniors DAY6). However, every band needs depth and width in their discography. You can’t simply repeat the same sound over and over. X room‘s sentimental heft offers something a bit different for Xdinary Heroes — at least when it comes to their promoted material.
Whether or not this will enjoy the same lasting popularity as a chart monster like You Were Beautiful remains to be seen, though it certainly feels like an attempt to do so. It’s not something I’d choose to listen to often, but for a certain mood and setting X room definitely hits its mark.
