The Legend of Kitchen Soldier tells the tale of Park Ji-hoon
by tccolb
Reporting for duty on TVING’s upcoming The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, the first poster and teaser has private Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 2) stationed at the army stoves. And thus begins his culinary battles, armed with an apron as his shield and a ladle as his sword.
Adapted from a popular webtoon by the same title, our drama’s titular hero dreams of greatness in the trailer’s open, envisioning himself as a South Korean warrior that stands strong in the face of any and every foe. We then cue the fantasy bubble bursting as Kang Sung-jae (Park Ji-hoon) is jolted awake, having finally arrived at his new military base.
It seems though that this branch is in desperate need of chefs because Sung-jae only volunteers that he can make ramen. And that’s enough to convince Lee Sang-yi (Bloodhounds 2) – in a special guest appearance – to assign the seemingly rookie cook Sung-jae to take on official kitchen duties. Sergeant Yoon Kyung-ho (The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call) is understandably taken aback.
But against all expectations, ~magic~ somehow sparkles in our Sung-jae’s eyes when he’s welcomed into the kitchen storerooms. I then watch in wretched hunger as Sung-jae cooks up a storm of mouth-watering dishes to serve in the soldiers’ dining hall, as if he was possessed by some culinary god. And these tasty morsels are about to make military history, moving the hearts of fellow chef Lee Hong-nae (Aema) and lieutenant Han Dong-hee (Queen Mantis), as well as other higher-ups, including Jung Woong-in (Confidence Queen) and Ahn Gil-kang (Aema).
Meals will begin serving on May 11 next month, with TVING’s The Legend of Kitchen Soldier also broadcasting in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot. Production is being led by PD Jo Nam-hyung (Tale of the Nine Tailed, A Superior Day) alongside writer Choi Ryong (Sorry Not Sorry).
