Amnesiac Seo Ji-hye retraces her lost memories in Reverse

A suspenseful teaser is out for the Wavve mystery drama Reverse, centered around a heroine who loses her memories after a harrowing accident. In the aftermath, she struggles to piece together the fragments of what was once her life — only to realize things may not be what they seem.
Bloodied and bruised, Seo Ji-hye (Nice to Not Meet You) awakens in a hospital bed. Her memories don’t surface, but we see flashes of the accidents that landed her in this sorry state. A villa explodes in a fiery blaze, and then a truck rams into her car. “Myo-jin,” says the person who’s been keeping vigil by her bedside.
As it turns out, Go Soo (Parole Examiner Lee) is her fiancé Ryu Jun-ho. Or so he claims. A brief scene shows him slipping a wedding ring onto Myo-jin’s finger. But when he leans in for a seaside kiss, something about Myo-jin’s body language reads a tad more taken aback, and a tad less enthusiastic than one would expect her to be.
Following Jun-ho’s lead, Myo-jin returns to her normal life step by step. But she can’t shake the creeping feeling that something is amiss. No matter how hard she tries, she just can’t seem to recall a single memory with Jun-ho in it. Then a backyard barbecue goes out of control, and though the flame billows for only a brief moment, it’s enough to send Myo-jin spiraling into a trauma response that she doesn’t know the cause of. “Just what happened to me?” a terrified Myo-jin asks Jun-ho.
A question looms large — on the night of the accident, just where was Myo-jin headed to? We see Myo-jin looking over her shoulder as she runs to the front gate, as if escaping from someone. Then for just a moment, a painting features Myo-jin and her friend Choi Hee-soo — played by Kim Jae-kyung (Grand Shining Hotel) — sharing an idyllic sunset together. But the very next second, a shell-shocked Myo-jin is stained with someone else’s blood. “I went somewhere I shouldn’t have,” admits Myo-jin. And notably, she’s already bloody before the truck of doom even makes its appearance.
Picking up on Myo-jin’s peculiar behavior, Jun-ho seemingly sets out to uncover the truth. But there’s more danger lurking in the shadows. “I told you that b*tch wasn’t one to die easily,” snaps an unknown man. Contrast that with the arrival of the vibrant Hee-soo, who greets Jun-ho with an excited hug. The three share a pleasant afternoon tea, but that night, Myo-jin asks Jun-ho who Hee-soo is.
Over in Hee-soo’s art studio, a belligerent man shoves her shelf of art supplies over, thoroughly frightening her. “I told you not to cross the line,” warns Jun-ho. “Or have you forgotten?” But is he saying that to Hee-soo, or Myo-jin? Someone grips a carving knife in their hand. Hee-soo glares at a man we don’t see. A distraught Myo-jin slams her fist into a visitation room’s partition, which already has a bloodstain on it. Amidst the chaos, a haunting question dawns upon Myo-jin. Is she a murderer?
Adapted from an online radio movie by the same title, Im Geon-joong will be taking on both the writing and directing fronts. The eight-episode revenge drama Reverse is slated for an April 17 premiere.
