Im Ji-yeon out-evils Heo Nam-joon in My Royal Nemesis
by tccolb
Preparations continue on SBS for the upcoming procession of My Royal Nemesis, ushering the way for Joseon’s big bad concubine Im Ji-yeon (Nice to Not Meet You) to enter the 21st century and meet-fight with chaebol miscreant Heo Nam-joon (A Hundred Memories) in the new sneak preview as well as character stills.
Kang Dan-shim (Im Ji-yeon) is naturally a little disoriented, having just been executed by poison in 18th century Joseon, when she suddenly finds herself in the far and foreign future that she mistakenly thinks is hell. We then cue the ~drama romance~ as Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-joon) steps in to rescue Dan-shim from an oncoming truck of doom car.
However, before our villainess can properly swoon get her bearings, Se-gye starts ranting about Dan-shim’s reckless behavior and how any accident would aggravate the already negative sentiment held against chaebols by the public. Presumably, he’s the man in charge of the festival taking place in the background of this scene and his main concern of course is how he would be held responsible should anything happen.
Although Dan-shim can’t fully follow Se-gye’s ramblings in the modern day vernacular, she understands enough to feel affronted by his accusations. And props to the actress as she rages in full sageuk-comedy mode, schooling Se-gye for mistreating her as a woman – even if they are in hell – and disrespecting King Yeom-ra (the ruler of the underworld).
Se-gye doesn’t flinch, though, calling Dan-shim a cos-player pretending to be crazy. Losing patience, Se-gye then offers to just pay her out right now. But this offends our proud concubine once again, who is not happy to be perceived as a money-hungry ghost. And thus begins the fierce showdown in a fern-to-flower duel.
Coming to our screens on May 8 next month, SBS’s My Royal Nemesis also stars Jang Seung-jo (As You Stood By), Kim Min-seok (Typhoon Family), Lee Se-hee (The Dream Life of Mr. Kim), and Chae Seo-ahn (Perfect Crown).
Broadcasting on weekends following Phantom Lawyer, production for the fantasy rom-com is being led by PD Han Tae-sub (Cheer Up, Stove League) and writer Kang Hyun-joo (Lost in Starlight).
