Shin Ha-kyun wants a reboot with his Fifties Professionals
by lovepark
The average life expectancy has increased which means the ajusshis of MBC’s Fifties Professionals still have half their life ahead of them. From cool action spies to menacing gangsters, Shin Ha-kyun (The Auditors), Oh Jung-se (We Are All Trying Here ), and Heo Sung-tae (Phantom Lawyer) were once at the top of their respective fields and hope to reboot their lives in order to soar again.
The first teaser for the upcoming show begins with an introduction of our ajusshi trio back in their prime. Jung Ho-myung (Shin Ha-kyun) is the monster raised by the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Bong Jae-soon (Oh Jung-se) is the spy who moves like a ghost, and Kang Bum-ryong (Heo Sung-tae) takes down any foe with one punch. These three were once legendary, but those glory days have long passed.
In the present, Ho-myung deals with male menopause, Jae-soon gets bullied for having amnesia, and Bum-ryong runs a convenience store. Their former selves are nowhere to be found in their current state, but Ho-myung yells at someone that he did not choose to live this way. They might not be spry young men anymore, but their hearts still burn with passion.
After sitting on the shelf for ten years, these three ajusshis have gotten a bit rusty, and the respect they once garnered is a thing of the past. People question their ability to fight and mock them for being unable to get anything right. It feels like time is running out, so Ho-myung begs for a chance to do something, at least. Will they finally get their chance to return to the limelight, or will they fizzle out into obscurity for the rest of their lives?
Directed by PD Han Dong-hwa (Shadow Detective, Navillera) with scripts written by Jang Won-seop, MBC’s Fifties Professionals begins its 12-episode adventure May 22 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
