Rapper Jerry.K has passed away on April 27 after battling glioblastoma,  a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, for nearly two years. He was 42.

A Seoul National University graduate, Jerry.K debuted in 2001 as part of rap duo Eloquence and later joined hip-hop crew Soul Company as a founding member. He built his solo career steadily from there.

His 2008 debut album Mawang put him on the map. The record tackled human nature and social issues head-on, earning him the nickname “Demon King” in Korean hip-hop circles. He founded his independent label, Daze Alive, in 2011 and kept releasing music consistently over the years.

He picked up nominations at the Korean Music Awards for both his third and fourth albums, and in 2020 released HOME — a quieter, more personal project about everyday life and peace of mind.

A memorial is set up at Sinchon Severance Hospital. The funeral is on April 29.
