While it is rare, cases of idols expressing dislike for other stars have occurred. Usually, these instances occur between members of the same group, who are airing out problems, sometimes without intending their thoughts to be known.

4th Gen Idol Caught Sh*t Talking Group Mates In Leaked Texts

Recently, an idol’s public messages sparked backlash over his alleged “sh*t talk” about a female idol.

In 2022, the boy group n.SSign debuted following the survival show Stars Awakening.

Recently, member Laurence shared several messages on Weverse, appearing to discuss ways that fans hype up their favorite idols with lists. He mentioned several, some of which may or may not exist, including “Top Female Indonesian Idol,” questioning how many Indonesian K-Pop idols were were.

Every time I see things like “the best male idol from the 5th generation,” “the best singer from the 5th generation,” and “the best composer from the 5th generation,” I can’t help but laugh. I’ve even seen “the best female idol from Indonesia.” I wonder how many Indonesians are there in the entire Korean entertainment industry.

    — Laurence

While there have been a number of Indonesia idols, the only one currently actively promoting is Hearts2Hearts’ Carmen, though multiple are in groups that have not announced disbandments.

As a result of his statements, many accused the idol of talking badly not only about Carmen, but saw the remark as disparaging towards Indonesians in general.

maybe try focusing on your career for once instead of sticking your nose into everything else, and yeah… you might wanna pray too so your fans and your group don’t get tired of you and actually keep supporting you

By mentioning other female idols to establish a clear-minded persona,it’s not cool💩💩@nSSign_official

Subsequently, the idol apologized with multi-language messages posted to the group’s account, saying he did not mean to use negative expressions about “other artists, their fans, or an entire country.”

Many addressed Lawrence’s apology, hopeful that he learned a lesson, rather than just apologizing to ease the criticism.

apology noted, but let’s be honest, the damage was already done before this statement came out. once words are spoken by a public figure, they don’t just disappear with an apology

it’s good that you finally realized it, but this situation could’ve been avoided completely if more… https://t.co/rl4ga5IuWP pic.twitter.com/R5jlZef03x

Being an idol is more than just talent it’s about being a role model. The industry is big enough for everyone to shine without putting others down, so it’s truly a shame when someone in your position forgets the basic importance of respecting fellow idol’s. Every journey is valid… https://t.co/TC4lnxYPHw

Your point about fan culture & unnecessary labels was actually valid, but using a specific country as a negative example was a mistake. Even if it was just an example, nationality is a sensitive topic. Please be more mindful of your words next time. https://t.co/K2BOi4v9zP
