Ryu Seung-ryong receives letters at Namiya General Store

Stocking the shelves and stacking the cast for its grand opening next year, Disney+ has officially announced production for The Miracles of the Namiya General Store. And casting has certainly had a field day, signing on an impressive ensemble lineup, led by Ryu Seung-ryong (The Dream Life of Mr. Kim), Kim Hye-yoon (No Tail to Tell), and Moon Sang-min (To My Beloved Thief) among many, many, many other talents.
Centered around our title’s Namiya General Store, the fantasy drama has Ryu Seung-ryong taking on the lead role of Go Min-joong, who is the owner of the shop. And in what I assume is a play on the character’s personality and arc, his name can be translated to mean, ‟in the middle of thinking/worrying.”
In our story’s present timeline, though, said store has sat derelict and boarded up for the last 40 years. That is until one fateful night, when we meet three robbers who are on the run: Kang Yoo-seok (Law and the City), Park Jung-woo (Salon de Nabi), and Kim Sung-jung (Our Universe).

By chance, the trio sneak inside to use the abandoned building as a hideout. This is when mysterious letters suddenly start to slip in through the general store’s mail slot and, even more shockingly, the senders are from the past. We then follow the space-time magic that ensues when our robbers read the letters and write back.
Not much has been revealed about the other main characters, which include Kim Hye-yoon and Moon Sang-min, in addition to Lee Chae-min (Cashero) and Yoon Kyung-ho (The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call). It’s probably not a stretch, though, to guess that they’re either part of Min-joong’s inner community or will be tied in someway to the letters’ contents.
The hefty list goes on with Go Ah-sung (Tracer), Lee Soo-kyung (When Life Gives You Tangerines), Kim Min-ha (Typhoon Family), and Bae In-hyuk (Our Universe) also starring in the series.

But we’re not done yet because Park Hee-soon (The Judge Returns), Oh Nara (Confidence Queen), Moon Woo-jin (The Scarecrow), and Park Se-wan (Seoul Busters) will be filling out our drama world as well.
Last but not least, we can expect to see Yeom Jung-ah (Love Take Two), Yeom Hye-ran (Law and the City), Jung Chae-yeon (Beyond the Bar), and Jang Dong-yoon (Queen Mantis) playing special guest appearance roles.
Adapted from the bestseller Japanese novel written by Keigo Higashino, the Korean series remake will have a runtime of 10 episodes and is slated to premiere sometime in 2027. Production for Disney+’s The Miracles of the Namiya General Store is currently in filming, with filmmaker Park Young-joo (Citizen of a Kind) at the helm in both directing and scripts.
