Park Ji-hoon salutes to The Legend of Kitchen Soldier

Welcoming us with a salute to the army base where it all begins, TVING seats us in the dining hall with a napkin at the ready for the latest video teasers and poster. And it’s time to tuck in for the fantastical foodie tale of Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 2) in The Legend of Kitchen Soldier.
Since beginning his army service, our Kang Sung-jae (Park Ji-hoon) has demonstrated great talent and dedication to his country as a soldier. But once he arrives at his new outpost, senior officer Lee Sang-yi (Bloodhounds 2) sends Sung-jae straight to work in the kitchens. As it turns out, the military’s culinary needs are indeed dire because the current cook Lee Hong-nae (Aema) is, well, terrible and meal times are pictured as a battleground in the sequence.
The dining ‟war” then finally ends when Sung-jae is newly aproned and stationed at the stove, rescuing the soldiers from tummy hell. And his superiors – including Yoon Kyung-ho (The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call), Han Dong-hee (Queen Mantis), Kang Ha-kyung (My Dearest), Jung Woong-in (Confidence Queen), and Ahn Gil-kang (Aema) – are only too pleased to experience the tasty food heavens.
Yoon Dong-hyun (Lee Hong-nae) is initially a little peeved at Sung-jae’s meal success, complaining that the soldiers will ask for seconds if the food is this delicious. In order words, Dong-hyun doesn’t want more work for the kitchen. However, we see that a cute camaraderie soon develops between our cooking pair, bonding over their shared fear of live chickens and prepping food together by the time the teaser ends.
Directed by PD Jo Nam-hyung (Tale of the Nine Tailed, A Superior Day) with writing by Choi Ryong (Sorry Not Sorry), TVING’s The Legend of Kitchen Soldier is slated to premiere on May 11 next week. The 12-episode series will also follow Yumi’s Cells 3 in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot and will be streaming internationally on Viki.
