The show ran for roughly 14 years before going off-air in November last year. At the time, the team behind it only said that “broadcasting for this year is wrapping up” — stopping short of officially confirming a cancellation.
Now, The Show is back, but some things have changed!
Iconic Music Show To End — What Will This Mean For Less Popular Groups?
The original The Show aired on SBS funE and was produced by SBS MediaNet. When SBS MediaNet pulled out of the entertainment business last year, the show went down with it.
This time around, production is being handled jointly by SBS LIFE — the channel it will now air on — and entertainment-tech startup BIGC. Leading the charge is Kim Chil Sung, a former SBS MediaNet staffer who now heads up BIGC’s performance business.
The team says they want The Show to be more than just a returning broadcast. Their goal is to relaunch it as a global music show built for the modern media landscape.
Whether that ambition pays off remains to be seen. But for fans and less popular idols who thought the show was gone for good, June 2 can’t come soon enough.
