Reborn Rookie Lee Jun-young fights to reclaim his title
by lovepark
Only one can sit at the top in JTBC’s upcoming office fantasy Reborn Rookie. Starring Lee Jun-young (Pump Up the Healthy Love) in a body-swap dilemma, the CEO of Choiseong Group falls into a coma, and his children contend for the vacant throne, unaware that the newcomer making a scene is actually their father Sohn Hyun-joo (Your Honor).
The newest teaser begins with a video game intro welcoming Hwang Joon-hyun (Lee Jun-young) to the company. The first choice he has to make is between 72-year-old chaebol Chairman Kang Yong-ho (Sohn Hyun-joo) and 27-year-old intern Hwang Joon-hyun. Despite his youthful looks, Joon-hyun has the soul of an old man (quite literally) and makes his presence known to everyone in the office. Whether he challenges a superior to a drinking contest or steals the microphone from his senior, he does everything with the confidence expected of an arrogant chairman and not an intern.
Joon-hyun claims that a first job is like a first love, but clearly, he and I have very different ideas of love. As Joon-hyun gets slammed into walls, stairwells, and even cars, it seems everyone who crosses his path wants to chuck him, but who can blame them when the new intern openly mocks them to guess his true identity.
The next choice is between twins Kang Jae-sung and Kang Jae-kyung played by Jin Gu (Moon River) and Jeon Hye-jin (Mother and Mom) respectively. He is the “oldest son” who is bound to bankrupt the company, and she is the “oldest daughter” trying to steal the company. Jae-kyung will do anything to protect Choiseong Group, and if that means kneeling to her father or threatening her younger brother, she will not hesitate to act. Though Jae-sung does everything in his power to defy her, Jae-kyung pushes him into a wall and warns him to watch his mouth unless he wants to die, too.
The bickering twins are not the only children in the line of succession since the next choice is between the two sides of youngest daughter Kang Bang-geul, played by Lee Joo-myung (My Youth). Despite her parentage, Bang-geul joins the company as a regular employee using an alias and hopes her gorgeous looks will turn heads. Joon-hyun is displeased, thinking that his daughter is dating rather than working, but if anyone else speaks ill of her, he makes sure to scold them.
As for the final choice, the chairman must decide between protecting Choiseong Group or his children. However, unlike the previous scenarios, our protagonist does not click on one or the other. Instead, he contemplates his choices, and the trailer ends before he announces which he wants.
The webnovel adaptation is directed by PD Go Hye-jin (My Youth) with scripts written by Hyun Ji-min (Pandora: Beneath the Paradise). JTBC’s Reborn Rookie is slated for twelve episodes and premieres May 30 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.
