Last week, concerns about a girl group’s future began to grow after one of their leaders announced her exit.
MNL48 | P.O.S. Inc
On May 10, Abby Trinidad, a former founding member of MNL48, confirmed that she would be leaving the P-Pop group. MNL48 is a Filipino idol girl group based in Manila, Philippines, and formed in 2018 as the fourth international sister group of Japan’s AKB48. Abby was appointed to a major leadership position for the group, MNL48’s General Manager.
Girl Group’s Leader Steps Down Amid Disbandment Rumors
In her statement, she expressed sadness about the situation, mentioned being shocked by developments circulating online, and clarified that she will continue supporting MNL48 in any way she can. The news sparked speculation about internal challenges, online controversies, and rumors affecting the group, including broader concerns about MNL48’s future.
Now, MNL48 has confirmed fans’ worst fears; they’re disbanding. On May 22, P.O.S Inc. released an official statement that has been reposted by members of the group on X (formerly Twitter). After taking the “sustainability of the management structure” for the group under consideration, among other things, it was decided that MNL48’s time must come to an end.
Although fans are saddened by the news, they are expressing their fondness for the group and support for the members, who they hope will re-debut under a new agency.

no matter where life takes each of us,
the love, music, memories, and bond we’ve created will stay with us always.
