Ever since kicking off her soloist era, Dayoung has also drastically changed her appearance, sporting a sexier, bolder look and unapologetically flaunting her tanned skin. The idol also recently revealed that she used body makeup three shades lighter than her natural complexion while promoting as a WJSN member.
K-Pop Idol Reveals She Used To Cover Her Natural Skin Tone During Group Promotions
Owing to the huge difference between her skin tone when she was a girl group member and now, as a soloist, Dayoung has often piqued people’s curiosity about a possible fake tan. However, when the idol was asked about getting a tan, she outright denied it, stating that it was her natural complexion.
Lee Si An: Ah, so you don’t do tanning at all?
Dayoung: I don’t!
MC: Dayoung, why did you get burnt like this?
Dayoung: Ah, I’m not burnt. I have just decided to love myself the way I am.
During her recent appearance on MBC’s Point of Omniscient Interfere, the idol was once again asked about getting fake tans, with Dayoung denying it yet again.
Jun Hyun Moo: You look like someone who just came out of a tanning salon/
Dayoung: This isn’t tanning. It’s just my skin!
But Korean netizens appear to be ticked off by Dayoung’s claim, with multiple posts across online communities accusing her of faking her tanned skin. However, the response to these posts has mostly been in the idol’s favor, defending her against accusations of lying.

- “Being a celebrity must be exhausting, too.”
- “She naturally has a somewhat dark complexion, but if you look at photos taken early in her debut, her skin does indeed appear darker compared to the other members.”

- “But seriously, what’s the big deal if she tans a little? 😭 There are tons and tons of white people in America who get spray tans and use tanning beds anyway.”
- “I guess Dayoung has made it big since people are making an issue out of every little thing now.”
- “There are seriously so many ridiculous forced accusations. My skin is really dark too. In my case, it’s not from tanning. I’ve been dark-skinned since I was a kid. My friend, who’s naturally fair, goes back to her original skin tone even after getting tanned. I’ve never worn crop tops or revealing swimsuits in my life, but my stomach, back, and chest are all dark too. There are plenty of people who are just born with their skin tone, so what’s everyone even talking about?”
