Former AOA member Mina has shared a heartbreaking update on the facial burns she suffered following a cosmetic procedure earlier this year.
On June 5, Mina took to social media to thank fans who had been concerned about her condition while revealing the current state of her recovery. While she acknowledged that her condition has improved compared to when the accident first occurred in January, she admitted that the recovery process has become increasingly frightening.
“Many people have been worried about how my skin is doing recently, and I’m grateful for that. Visually, it’s gotten much better than it was in January because I’ve been receiving treatment at a specialized hospital. But from my perspective, the recovery has slowed down significantly from here, and honestly, I’m very scared.
Alongside the message, Mina uploaded photos showing the visible scars that remain on her cheeks and jawline. The photos revealed lingering red burn scars across both cheeks, prompting an outpouring of concern from fans.
Earlier this year, Mina revealed that she suffered severe burns while undergoing a laser procedure at a dermatology clinic. She later stated that she was pursuing legal action against the doctor involved. According to Mina, she was initially informed that skin graft surgery and approximately two years of treatment could be necessary.
“Right now, I’m looking at a recovery period of more than a year. The possibility of permanent scarring also can’t be ruled out.”
The former idol also explained that the accident forced her to cancel scheduled filming projects. She claimed that because she was unable to attend certain shoots, she had to refund appearance fees and faced additional financial losses. Mina stated that the clinic director compensated her approximately ₩20.0 million KRW (about $13,000 USD), which included medical expenses through March as well as damages related to canceled schedules.
However, she alleged that since March, she has been covering treatment costs herself, including medical expenses, medication, and mental health treatment. Mina further claimed that the financial impact of the incident has exceeded ₩100 million KRW (about $65,200 USD) in lost work opportunities. Most heartbreakingly, Mina admitted that her biggest fear is the possibility that the scars may never fully disappear.
