Hot off the heels of his latest hit, Kim Mu-yeol (Teach You a Lesson) has been cast in Netflix’s newest medical drama First Doctor (working title) alongside Jung Ryeo-won (The Midnight Romance in Hagwon). With the cast now confirmed, production has begun, though it will be a while until the show officially hits our screens.
Jung Ryeo-won plays pediatric surgeon Heo Ji-wan. A highly skilled doctor with a strong sense of duty, many recognize her talents, but her brash personality has her better known as a “trouble maker” at her hospital. When an accident occurs, Ji-wan is forced to return to Yeonhwa University Hospital where she must fight for her department and the young patients in her care.
Working alongside the new pediatric surgeon is third-year resident Ki Eun-gyeol played by Ha Yoon-kyung (Undercover Miss Hong). Though a bit rebellious, Eun-gyeol is smart and quick with her hands that even the Chief of Surgery has taken an interest in her since her first year. When she meets Ji-wan, the two doctors seem to disagree on everything but slowly develop a bond as mentor and mentee.
Filling out the upper echelon of Ji-wan’s new hospital are Baek Hyun-jin (The Scarecrow) as the aforementioned Chief Surgeon Sohn Sang-baek and Kim Jong-soo (Teach You a Lesson) as Vice Director Lee Chang-gon. Last but not least, Kim Mu-yeol plays anesthesiology professor Bae Su-wol. He has known Ji-wan for a long time as a colleague and has an affable personality.
On the production side, PD Hong Jong-chan (Teach You a Lesson) grabs the microphone, making this his third project with Kim Mu-yeol. As for the scripts, writer Kim Min-seok (Juvenile Justice) reunites with Hong and Kim once again for another Netflix show.
