Reasons to watch: SBS’s latest drama, Agent Kim Reactivated, is throwing viewers into an action-packed story about a man risking it all to save his daughter’s life.
So Ji-sub stars as our titular Agent Kim, a secret agent whose work once took him beyond the DMZ to operate in both Koreas. He was elite, but when his wife died, he walked away from it all to focus on raising their daughter (played by Seo Soo-min in her acting debut). As far as all the intelligence world knows, he dropped off the face of the earth.
In the present day, So is just a neighborhood ajusshi with a normal office job. But normal life comes with its pitfalls and his daughter becomes the target for school bullies led by baddie Joo Sang-wook’s daughter. Much to his daughter’s dismay, So is uncharacteristically unsupportive when it comes to handling the bullies, but it’s all in order to remain off anyone’s radar. Seo is stunned, and while she’s still dealing with bullies, she suddenly goes missing.
Immediately, So understands that there’s something afoot, and he has no shortage of enemies across the peninsula who could be behind his daughter’s disappearance. In order to save his daughter, he blows his cover and enlists two old friends, Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho, to help rescue his daughter.
I’m in the mood for an action-thriller that has lots of action and a fast-moving plot, so this could be just what I need to get out of my current action genre slump. The cast and their chemistry are also something I’m looking forward to, and judging from the teasers (and press conference photos), this could be the bromance of the summer.
