Resident Playlist actor Jung Joon Won has found himself at the center of an unexpected “attitude” controversy following an appearance on MBC’s Hangout With Yoo.
The actor appeared on the August 1 episode alongside Gong Hyo Jin, his co-star in the currently airing MBC K-Drama, A Bona Fide Killer. The episode featured the cast searching for a female lead for the second season of their short-form drama project. From the moment he entered, Jung Joon Won appeared visibly uncomfortable. Gong Hyo Jin immediately warned the cast that variety shows were completely unfamiliar territory for him, explaining that he was not good at this type of entertainment.
Her concern quickly proved justified. When Yoo Jae Suk asked for his thoughts on the short-form drama, Jung Joon Won began by saying it was “easy to watch” before trailing off and asking how honest he was allowed to be. Noticing his stiff posture and apparent nervousness, Yoo Jae Suk and Joo Woo Jae attempted to lighten the mood by joking that he looked as though he might fall out of his seat.
However, the awkward atmosphere continued. At one point, Jung Joon Won asked Yoo Jae Suk whether everything he was doing was acting. When the other cast members reacted playfully, Gong Hyo Jin stepped in once again, explaining that her co-star lacked the imagination needed to immediately understand whether something was a skit.

The moment that ultimately triggered the strongest backlash came when Yoo Jae Suk suggested a simple acting challenge. Jung Joon Won was asked to deliver the same line using different emotions, including curiosity, anger, and sadness. Unlike a dance, a comedy routine, or a personal talent, the challenge appeared to be specifically designed to make the actor more comfortable by relying on his professional skills.
He initially seemed willing, asking where he should look while performing. Once the challenge began, however, Jung Joon Won closed his eyes, hesitated, and failed to deliver the line. Yoo Jae Suk eventually moved on, while Heo Kyung Hwan demonstrated the challenge himself in an attempt to keep the segment going.
Jung Joon Won was given another opportunity, but he once again remained mostly silent. Gong Hyo Jin even called out, “Start!” to encourage him, yet he still did not complete the performance. Gong Hyo Jin ultimately stepped in and performed instead.

The scene immediately divided viewers. Some defended Jung Joon Won by pointing to his reportedly extremely introverted personality and lack of variety-show experience. They argued that he had simply frozen under pressure and that an awkward television appearance should not automatically be interpreted as arrogance or poor character. Others were much harsher, saying that nervousness could no longer explain his refusal to participate after the cast repeatedly accommodated him.
The biggest point of criticism was that Jung Joon Won had not been asked to dance, sing, tell jokes, or perform an embarrassing personal talent. He had been asked to act. One viewer questioned how someone capable of filming dramas in front of large crews could become completely unable to perform once appearing on a variety show. Another argued that “being introverted and doing paid work are two different things,” while others said ordinary people also suppress their discomfort in professional environments.
