What would you do if you won the lottery? Go on a shopping spree or perhaps a vacation? Hopefully, your answer wasn’t returning to work the next day like Lee Jun-hyuk (The Art of Sarah) in tvN’s newest office drama The Ordinary Jackpot (previously Even Lottery Winners Go to Work). Now that sounds depressing.
Gong Eun-tae (Lee Jun-hyuk) is your everyday office worker, but unlike most people, he beats the 1 to 8,145,060 odds and wins the lottery. Suddenly the recipient of 1.3 billion won, Eun-tae is left with one pressing question: what can he do with this money? While it is a large lump sum, in this economy, Eun-tae learns that it is not quite the life-changing amount he hoped. His dreams of living off rent by buying property are crushed — he needs more than double his current winnings to do that — so the only thing left is to go back to the grind.
Joining team leader Eun-tae is Seo Hyun-woo (A Shop for Killers 2) as assistant manager Yang Jun-ho. Bright and friendly, Jun-ho is a ray of sunshine to those around him and loves talking to people. However, he also gets easily jealous, so when Eun-tae gets promoted over him, his attitude changes. Taking advantage of Eun-tae’s mild-mannered nature, Jun-ho berates him over the littlest things and picks fights whenever he can.
In contrast, team leader Jung Sun-hyuk, played by Oh Dae-hwan (Filing for Love), seems to be the only one in the office who looks out for Eun-tae. Sun-hyuk is a passionate leader with a strong desire for work, but years of being passed over has turned him into a prideful opportunist as well.
While life may not have changed in the way Eun-tae imagined, having the safety net of 1.3 billion won does give the gentle team leader a chance to finally express his feelings, and with this shift, the atmosphere at work transforms as well. (As a bonus, the cast shared what they would do if they won the lottery, and Lee Jun-hyuk said he would get off work, Seo Hyun-woo wants to see how long he can hide it, and Oh Dae-hwan will be going on a family vacation.)
The webnovel adaptation The Ordinary Jackpot is directed and written by filmmaker Yoon Young-bin (Tomb of the River) and premieres September 10 in the Thursday slot.
