Someone is catching feelings — and it is not our fangirl, who is just happy to be here and working alongside her bias. But how long can she stay in her fangirl bubble when reality is fast creeping up on her?
EPISODES 3-4
We resume with Da-reum and Ha-gi pulling each other out of harm’s way when a motorbike speeds past them. Ha-gi goes home feeling all flustered at the skinship and thinking back on his previous interactions with Da-reum in a more romantic light. Lol. A thunderstorm soon snaps him back to reality, and he rushes out to check on the setup for Appello’s outdoor fashion show. Ha-gi is pleasantly surprised to see Da-reum already moving things out of the rain when he arrives, and he worries about her safety because it’s really windy. But she insists on helping out. She wears a huge grin during the conversation, and it slowly transfers to his face.
Although Da-reum and Ha-gi are able to save the clothes, the outdoor site is ruined and the fashion show seems impossible now. An Appello insider leaks the news to SE Corp, and SE escalates it to the participating fashion brands. Some brands pull out of partnership with Appello, but Ha-gi decides to go ahead with the fashion show as an online event. Mid-preparations, Da-reum dashes out to SE to see her mom — who still thinks she works there. But an Appello employee spots her outside SE in what appears to be a conversation with one of the directors, and he sends a picture to Ha-gi. This solidifies Ha-gi’s suspicion that Da-reum is a corporate spy, and he takes her off the fashion show preparations.
Ha-gi eventually finds out Da-reum worked at SE for just two months and she dashed out to see her mom, so he puts her back on the show. Da-reum puts her fangirl skills to work by coming up with a fashion show promotion video/social media challenge — which goes viral after Chan jumps on it. The online fashion show ends up being a bigger success than they planned, and Da-reum is very proud of herself. I love that she genuinely cares about Appello and the brands under them, and she was willing to do her part to make the show a success even when Ha-gi took her off the project.
Speaking of Ha-gi, he feels bad for misjudging Da-reum but he doesn’t know how to apologize. He even fumbles the advice that his AI chatbot gives him. Lol. Da-reum finds Ha-gi’s misunderstanding hilarious when he finally comes clean and apologizes, and she assures him she loves Appello more than she ever liked SE. She even volunteers to help him find the real spy, and her excitement about sleuthing is so contagious that finds himself smiling as well. Ha-gi tells his chatbot that Da-reum is always laughing around him, and the chatbot suggests she might have feelings for him. Cue: Ha-gi waving goodbye to the spy misunderstanding and saying hello to the “Da-reum has a crush on me” idea. Looool.
While Ha-gi marinates in delulu-land, Chan is busy rocking Da-reum’s world. He even has a bracelet that matches the necklace he made for her. Although she has no idea yet. Chan asks Da-reum how she became his fan, and she tells him she used to be an outcast in high school. But she was encouraged to stay strong when she listened to him share his own high school outcast story on a radio show. Da-reum also met her besties through the D.N.X fandom, and she’s forever grateful to Chan and the group. Aww. Chan can also relate to finding friends in the outcast era because he stopped being an outcast in school after Ha-gi pulled him into his circle of friends. Double aww.
Chan invites Da-reum to meet up over the weekend, and she stops by a wine shop on her way. She answers in the affirmative when the salesperson asks if she’s buying the wine for someone she likes. But Ha-gi is also in the shop and he witnesses the scene, so of course he assumes he’s the recipient of the wine. Heh. The real recipient of the wine tells Da-reum to feel at home in his house, and my good sis tours the place like she’s at a museum. Lol. The highlight of her day is when Chan puts headphones over her ears to listen to his unreleased music. Da-reum closes her eyes in anticipation of a kiss, but Cho-yi comes in and snaps her out of her delusions. Ugh!
Chan tries to explain the Cho-yi situation to Da-reum, but she is too mortified to listen. She scolds herself for expecting something more, but I don’t blame her. Chan was a little too smooth in the headphones scene, and it’s so easy to get caught up in moments like that. (And by the way, I don’t believe Chan was unaware that he was giving Da-reum butterflies in her tummy.) A downcast Da-reum can barely focus on her walk home, and she almost gets knocked down by a car. Ha-gi sees Da-reum on the crosswalk and he has a brief flashback to his mom in a similar situation. He hurries to pull her out of the way and ends up spraining his ligament when they crash to the ground and she lands on his arm.
Ha-gi has to get a cast and Da-reum feels apologetic since he hurt his dominant hand because of her. She volunteers to help him fix an urgent work proposal at his house, and she brings him wine because you don’t visit someone’s house empty handed. But it’s the same brand he saw her buy at the wine shop. Yunno, the one for the person she supposedly likes. Hehe. Ha-gi’s chatbot confirms that the wine means Da-reum definitely likes him, and Ha-gi begins to see stars and hearts all around Da-reum. Loool. Not AI chatbot-nim being our OTP’s third shipper.
I’m liking this drama more than I did last week. And I low-key think part of the reason is because Da-reum did not drink and she showed more sides to her character other than fangirling. (By the way, I thought it was hilarious that her mom is also a fangirl of some trot(?) singer.) Ha-gi in his delulu era is so fun. Da-reum is just trying to get on his good side so that he can recommend her for the abroad training with Chan. But she has unintentionally Best Employee-d her way into his life. Loool.
It won’t be a K-drama without the trauma, so we await the unraveling of Ha-gi’s mom’s story. There’s also the whole drama with D.N.X’s disbandment, and the ill feelings Chan’s group members have for him. Aigoo! K-drama challenge: writing male leads without sad backstories… Challenge failed!
