Spooky in Love (8/12) – I know this show needs a plot beyond just our leads being in love, but really, my interest completely hinges on them being with each other and doing stuff together. The moment they’re separated, my interest wanes (except when it’s Gang-wook with his work besties), and completely dies whenever Min-hwan or the annoying cousin show up. I had thought it was better we weren’t getting a ghost-of-the-week type show, but at this point, I would rather that than the succession drama. Just give me my couple being cute together, please!
Dream To You (9/12) – Dropped. The completionist in me wants to keep going because we’re so close to the end, and I might some day pick it back up just to say I finished it, but I really don’t care about half the storylines the show is throwing at us, or the whiplash pacing of it all. There’s too many other things that are languishing in my watchlist, and I figure I’m happy to just read the recaps for the remaining episodes and watch the few scenes I want to instead of suffering through the parts that aren’t keeping my attention, or worse, actively annoying me.
Flex x Cop (Completed) – I rated this an 8.5 overall, which is not something I would have expected to give a procedural, but this show deserves it. The last 4 episodes, in particular, were an emotional rollercoaster, and I loved that they made the villain reveal as heartbreaking for the audience as for the characters; it really felt like we went through the wringer with them. I loved our core four, obviously, but the show also did so well fleshing out the supporting cast, including FL’s parents (possibly the loveliest ones I’ve seen in my short Kdrama-watching history), ML’s ahjussi (thank goodness he didn’t die), ML’s dad (a very well-crafted complicated figure) and even the police chief and the Team 2 colleagues. Just some solid, good stuff all around.
Flex x Cop 2 (3/14) – I’ve discovered a new girl crush in Jung Eun-chae, so I might be a little biased, but objectively too, I think the season is off to a strong start. Going straight from the heavy, emotional events at the end of S1 to the light-heartedness of S2 was a bit jarring, but it was definitely nice seeing a lot of the faces (and sets) back. While they brushed over the FL’s absence, I think a new character is always better than a recast, and the show is doing a decent job differentiating the new FL’s relationship and dynamic with the ML. She definitely seems more senior to him, but I like that now they’re more-or-less peers, she’s just amused by him and seems to enjoy his company. It also seems like the overarching mystery will start with her this time, rather than the ML, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that will unfold.
My week has been fully devoted to FxC, so now that I’m finally caught up, I can turn my attention to the stuff I’ve been putting off, like A Bonafide Killer. Onward!
