BIGBANG’s G-Dragon (GD) recalled the tension he felt during his broadcast comeback after seven years, while Daesung also added his thoughts.
On August 22nd, the web variety show Excuse High School was released on the YouTube channel Ddeun Ddeun. The video featured BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung talking with Yoo Jae Suk and Haha.
In the video, Yoo Jae Suk recalled G-Dragon’s appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block in the past.
Yoo Jae Suk said, “He came on You Quiz and met me too. I’ve known GD for quite a while, but I can’t forget You Quiz GD.”
In response, G-Dragon explained, “It was almost like my first broadcast in seven years, so I think I kept acting like this,” while striking a stiff pose with tight neck and shoulders. He was extremely nervous for his return to broadcasting after a long break.
At that time, G-Dragon’s appearance on You Quiz attracted even greater attention. In November 2023, G-Dragon was booked on charges related to drug use, but he tested negative in subsequent laboratory analysis, and in December of the same year, the police decided not to prosecute due to lack of evidence. Having broken his long silence and appeared in public, every word and gesture of his attracted public attention.
In particular, after the broadcast, some online reactions noted that G-Dragon’s tone and gestures seemed different from before.
Regarding this, Daesung said, “Back then, there were a lot of comments about hyung’s gestures and tone, so he probably felt even more suppressed,” reflecting on the pressure G-Dragon must have felt and expressing his sympathy.
G-Dragon also openly shared his difficult emotions during the time of the drug use allegations when he appeared on You Quiz.
He described the situation as “feeling cornered,” adding, “I couldn’t move forward, and if I became mentally exhausted, I thought I might consider dangerous things. I forced myself to keep centered no matter what.”
Yoo Jae Suk recalled meeting G-Dragon at that time and said, “He spoke candidly about his thoughts.”
He also thought G-Dragon must have felt considerable pressure restarting his solo activities after the long hiatus, but then shifted the tone by mentioning that G-Dragon’s subsequent release of “POWER” received a strong response.
