Famous YouTuber Park We, who has been embroiled in a controversy over targeting public service workers, has taken action on his YouTube channel.
According to OSEN’s verification on September 1st, after deleting the video titled “The Reason for Releasing CCTV Footage,” which covered the incident that occurred while disembarking from the KTX on August 23rd, Park We set 13 additional videos to private over the course of a week.
After deleting the video, the Weracle channel, which had 798 videos remaining, deleted 10 more videos on the 26th and 3 more videos two days later on the 28th. With a total of 14 videos deleted, the Weracle channel currently has 785 videos remaining.
The reason why Park We set the videos to private has not been confirmed. However, since these deleted videos have recently been re-highlighted, they have become a turning point for re-evaluating Park We’s sincerity.
The deleted videos include titles such as “How a Person with Paraplegia Boards KTX” and “I Can Only Sigh…,” which were released in August 2022. Park We tagged these videos with keywords like “social experiment camera” and “uncomfortable truth.”
In those videos, rather than showing gratitude towards people who gave up their seats or made space for wheelchair users, Park We left room for negative interpretations through comparisons with overseas cases and subtitles.
After the controversy over targeting public service workers, netizens who saw the videos criticized Park We, suggesting that instead of leading efforts to improve awareness of disabilities, he might have been highlighting the lack of awareness and backwardness in domestic disability accommodation by comparing it with other countries.
Meanwhile, after the controversy, Park We apologized, saying, “I failed to consider the position of the staff members who did their best to help me and apologized politely. I viewed the mistakes that occurred during the process of better helping me too negatively. My method of conveying this was unskilled and my thinking was shortsighted.”
Despite Park We’s apology, public disappointment continues and has led to a decrease in subscriber count. The Weracle channel, which had one million subscribers, has now dropped to 955,000.
