The prosecution has demanded the death penalty for a singer and YouTuber, who was indicted for assaulting and neglecting her biological daughter, leading to her death.
On September 11th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Changwon District Court Jinju Branch announced that at the judgment hearing held on the 10th, the prosecution demanded the death penalty, the highest legal sentence, for A, in her 40s, who was indicted and detained on charges including murder.
The prosecution explained the reason for the demand, stating, “The defendant was delusional that she had been humiliated in society because of her daughter, repeatedly beating her with a wooden stick and pouring hot water on her head, causing burns. She denied the charges without remorse, and given her past record of assaulting her spouse, there is a high risk of reoffending, necessitating permanent social isolation.”
A’s defense firmly denied the murder charges. Her lawyer expressed regret for the delayed hospital visit that led to her daughter’s death but pleaded for leniency, stating there was no intent to kill.
A was indicted for assaulting and abandoning her teenage biological daughter, B, leading to her death last September at a residence in Namhae County while she was on leave from school.
With the prosecution seeking the highest penalty, attention is focused on how the court will judge A’s murder charge.
The verdict in the first trial for A is scheduled to be announced in the sentencing hearing on the 8th of next month.
