A K-Pop girl group member confessed the deep emotional scars she suffered while losing weight and spoke candidly about the standards imposed on appearance.
Recently, RESCENE‘s Minami shared a sincere message with fans through a fan communication platform. Referring to diet-related content she had appeared in, Minami said, “Honestly, isn’t an idol’s dieting story so entertaining? I think even I would have found it fun. I’m glad it was presented in an enjoyable way, but for me, it was traumatic and stressful.”
She expressed concern for fans who might be hurt by comments about appearance and sounded a warning. Minami emphasized, “As an idol, I understand that maintenance is necessary, but no one should be bullied because of how they look. What may seem trivial to some can be an immense source of stress for others.”
She added, “No matter how you look, what’s most important is your inner self. If someone criticizes your personality, acknowledge it and grow from it. But no matter who it is or what the situation is, no one should be insulted for their appearance.” Minami comforted fans by urging, “Please don’t put yourselves through such harsh dieting.”
Earlier on September 11th, Minami had openly revealed the harsh weight-loss story before her debut on YouTube. She admitted to experiencing severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-level pressure while losing about 18kg.
She recalled a particular moment during the “Heart Drop” promotions when a pair of jeans wouldn’t fit over her hips, and she barely managed to put them on with staff help. She said, “After the fitting, I went to the car and cried alone. I couldn’t breathe and had no strength,” evoking sympathy.
