An OG K-Pop idol opened up about the difficulties he faced while appearing on variety shows in the past.
On the morning of September 21st, the YouTube channel Channel Bandal uploaded a video featuring Eun Jiwon of Sechs Kies, Suho of EXO, S.Coups of SEVENTEEN, and Myung Jaehyun of BOYNEXTDOOR.
In the video, Suho confessed, “Every time I see you on broadcasts, I envy your mischievous and free-spirited vibe,” to which Eun Jiwon replied, “I wasn’t like that at first.”
He added, “Next year marks my 30th debut anniversary. Because of that, I’ve known all the staff for a long time. That made me reveal my true self and feel comfortable on broadcasts.” He confessed that in his early debut days, he barely spoke.
Although Eun Jiwon is now a representative variety star, he revealed that he didn’t like doing variety shows in the beginning.
He said, “Although it’s hard to imagine now, there used to be a lot of dating shows,” mentioning programs like Lang Ho Dong’s Match Made in Heaven and War of Roses.
When Suho commented, “In our time, there was We Got Married,” Eun Jiwon countered, “People didn’t really believe that one. Back then, people were innocent and believed everything.”
Although he didn’t want to do variety shows, Eun Jiwon said they were necessary to appear on music programs. He shared, “I couldn’t do it sober. They told me every week to confess to a new girl, even if I didn’t have feelings. Then next week, I had to confess to another girl again. You know Kang Ho Dong, right? He kept saying, ‘Hurry up!’ I didn’t want to do it, but they kept making me confess,” which drew laughter.
