Some even accused the show of queerbait.

The ending of the popular K-drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas has left many viewers frustrated, with many even calling it one of the worst of the year.
The series stars Song Kang as Pio and Lee Jun Young as Jeongyo. The two characters have a complicated relationship that stays at the center of the story.
The show follows Jeongyo, a talented pianist whose life changes after he is kidnapped and shot in the shoulder. The injury causes nerve damage, leaving him unable to play the piano.
Years later, Jeongyo returns as a successful conductor. He has not forgotten what happened to him and wants revenge. He believes Pio was involved in his kidnapping.
However, the truth is more complicated. Jeongyo eventually learns that Pio was not the person behind everything. Pio’s mother was actually responsible.
This leads Jeongyo to regret what he did and apologize to Pio. He also tries to help Pio return to the piano after Pio becomes overwhelmed by guilt.
But things do not end happily for Jeongyo.
What did Pyo even lose? Almost nothing. He took Jeongyu’s talent and learned from him how to play with emotion while Jeongyu lost his talent his hand and everything he loved. Pyo got everything and Jeongyu paid the full price… #FourHandsTwoSonatasEp11#FourHandsTwoSonatas pic.twitter.com/NaZt28rxRL

He manages to play the piano again for a short time, despite his injury. He does this to help Pio return to playing. However, the damage to his hands eventually returns, leaving him unable to continue as a pianist or conductor.
Meanwhile, Pio’s mother serves three years in prison before being released. Jeongyo ends up returning to a monastery.
this is why, even though the grandpa wanted to make amends in the end, im not moved at all . if only he hadn’t been the first to judge his daughter and had supported her instead, none of this would have happened#FourHandsTwoSonatas #포핸즈 #FourHandsTwoSonatasEp11 pic.twitter.com/X7j0aIfPcj

For many viewers, this was seemingly a frustrating conclusion to Jeongyo’s story. After losing his career and spending years dealing with the effects of the kidnapping, he ends the show having lost even more.
Other criticism was raised regarding Jeongyo and Pio’s relationship. Many accused the K-Drama of queerbaiting, saying it seemed to build romantic tension between the two characters without actually making their relationship romantic.
“just like that day, play it freely”

Others, meanwhile, claimed the ending would have made more sense had it been a BL K-Drama.
“Honestly, if it had been BL, this would’ve been a storyline I could actually accept.”
“Oh my god..”
“Holy sh*t…. I’ve been waiting to binge-watch this, but apparently the ending is fucking terrible…”
“Even after watching it all the way to the ending, it’s obviously a BL drama, but they tried to pass it off as queerbaiting, so I feel like that’s why everything got so tangled up.”
“This is totally a BL-style storyline. They should’ve just made it an actual BL drama.”
“They could’ve at least let him be a conductor. What the hell is this?”
“What the hell, I haven’t watched the finale yet, but now I’m definitely not going to.”
