A 40-year-old singer and YouTuber was sentenced by the court for assaulting her teenage daughter, pouring hot water on her causing full-body burns, then neglecting her until she died.
The Criminal Division 1 of Changwon District Court, Jinju Branch sentenced A, who was arrested and indicted for murdering her biological daughter, to 25 years in prison on October 8th.
A was indicted for beating her college freshman daughter B (18), who was on leave from school, in Namhae County, Gyeongnam Province last September, then leaving her in a car for more than two days until she died.
According to the prosecution’s charges, A assaulted her daughter with a wooden stick and other objects, saying, “I was humiliated because of my daughter.” During the assault, B suffered a scalp laceration, and A poured hot water on the top of her head, causing burns on 27% of her body.
Although B complained of difficulty breathing, A did not take necessary measures. Instead, to conceal her crime, she left her in the car without arranging appropriate treatment, and eventually she died.
The crime came to light when A took her daughter to an emergency room at a hospital in Namhae County. Medical staff found injuries and bruises all over her body and reported it to the police.
Upon investigation, A’s crime was uncovered. It was reported that B was already dead upon arrival at the hospital. An autopsy by the National Forensic Service concluded B died from shock caused by severe trauma.
Earlier, at the prosecution’s closing arguments held on the 10th of last month, they demanded the death penalty, the highest sentence under the law, for A. The prosecution argued, “Throughout the trial, the defendant has denied her crime and responsibility without remorse, posing a high risk of reoffending.”
In contrast, A’s defense claimed there was no intent to murder. They pleaded for leniency, stating, “There was no intention to kill.”
However, the court severely criticized A’s actions and subsequent behavior. The court stated, “The defendant inflicted serious injuries and full-body burns on the victim, and to hide her act, she neither took her to the hospital promptly nor ensured she received proper treatment. Still, she does not acknowledge her wrongdoing or take responsibility for the crime.”
The court also noted, “However, considering the overall circumstances, it is difficult to see this as a meticulously planned crime.”
Taking all factors into account, the court sentenced A to 25 years in prison.
