A famous TV personality’s pork cutlet specialty restaurant, which opened in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, is attracting attention online with honest reviews from visitors on its opening day.
On October 20th, a YouTube channel released a video titled “Honest Review of Jung Hyung Don’s Pork Cutlet Restaurant.” In the video, the channel operator visited the pork cutlet specialty restaurant Donidoni Katsukatsu run by Jung Hyung Don and personally tasted the menu.
Expecting many waiting customers, the operator arrived earlier than opening time but found no one waiting. As a result, he entered as the first customer and ordered the basic pork cutlet, stir-fried kimchi pork cutlet, and cheese pork cutlet.
After tasting, he gave an overall assessment that the flavor was familiar and mild. He commented, “The seasoning is not strong, and the batter is crispy. It’s not extraordinary, but it tastes just like the ‘old-fashioned pork cutlet’ we know.” Among the various menu items, he found the stir-fried kimchi pork cutlet the most satisfying.
There were also some drawbacks. When cutting the cheese pork cutlet, cheese oozed onto the plate, but the operator said this was understandable given it was the opening day. Regarding the price, he added that it generally felt somewhat burdensome. He then summarized, “Rather than expecting a fantastic restaurant, it’s better to think ‘Jung Hyung Don has opened a pork cutlet place.’ If you’re curious, stop by casually.”
After the video’s release, the online community offered varied reactions not only about the food’s flavor but also regarding the price and menu composition. Particularly notable were comments suggesting that satisfaction did not seem high relative to the price, even considering the Seongsu-dong location.
Some netizens said, “It doesn’t seem worth going out of your way to eat,” and “It’s not much different from local pork cutlets, but feels more expensive just because it’s in Seongsu-dong.” Others expressed disappointment with the food’s presentation and composition, or noted that, since it’s a restaurant bearing Jung Hyung Don’s name, it needs more distinctive competitiveness.
However, not all responses were negative. Many voiced support for Jung Hyung Don’s new venture. Based on the mixed reviews following the opening day visit, attention is focused on how the restaurant will evolve going forward.
