As various suspicions arose regarding the broadcast date of the drama Second ignal 2, the broadcasting company clarified its position.
On October 25th, a media outlet reported that tvN‘s sequel to Signal, titled Second Signal, would air its first episode on December 7. It was also revealed that the drama production, which had initially planned not to promote, might hold a pre-recorded press conference with the cast except for Jo Jin Woong.
However, tvN responded briefly to the report, saying, “Nothing has been confirmed yet,” leaving the drama’s release once again in uncertainty.
Following the success of Signal Season 1 in 2016, expectations were high for Season 2, which was expected to air in June to mark tvN’s 20th anniversary but was postponed amid difficulties.
The issue began with the controversy surrounding actor Jo Jin Woong. According to Dispatch, he had been sent to a juvenile detention center for crimes including robbery, assault, and sexual assault during his teenage years. After the allegations surfaced, Jo Jin Woong’s agency acknowledged past wrongdoings during his minority but denied the sexual assault allegations.
On the following day, Jo Jin Woong issued an apology through his agency and announced his intention to retire as an actor.
Netizens expressed shock at the contrast between Jo Jin Woong, who had played a righteous detective in Signal, and his past behavior. Amid this, it was reported that filming for Second Signal had been completed by August 2025, deepening the public’s disappointment.
In 2026, opinions emerged that Season 2 would air without measures such as “total editing.” Since Jo Jin Woong holds a significant role in the drama, removing him would require editing other parts as well. However, the production team has yet to make an official statement regarding this.
Second Signal stars include Jo Jin Woong, along with Season 1 members Kim Hye Soo and Lee Je Hoon.
