“Pay Me Back” — Korean Star Enraged At Ex-Husband’s Album Release

A Korean star expressed her frustration over the news of her ex-husband’s album release. Amid ongoing disputes over property division following their divorce, she even left a response implying that she has filed a lawsuit against him, attracting attention.

On November 3rd, voice actor and broadcaster Seo Yu Ri posted on her social media, “Pay me back my money quickly. Why are you releasing another album?” She went on to express her bitter feelings, saying, “Ah, now I’m the one promoting it again. Seo Yu Ri giving unconditionally.”

Comments exchanged with netizens also drew notice. When one netizen asked, “Wouldn’t it be better to file a lawsuit?” Seo Yu Ri simply replied, “I did.”

The person Seo Yu Ri openly expressed dissatisfaction with is her ex-husband, drama director PD Choi Byeong Gil. PD Choi works concurrently as a singer-songwriter under the name “Ashbun.”

The couple married in 2019 but separated in 2024. Since then, they have clashed publicly numerous times over debts and property division related to the divorce.

In March, Seo Yu Ri partially revealed on social media the divorce agreement she made with PD Choi. The agreement stated that PD Choi would pay ₩323 million KRW (about $240,000 USD) in property division funds by December 31, 2024, and would incur a 12% annual late interest if delayed. At the time, Seo Yu Ri appealed, saying she had not received the promised money and asked, “When can I expect it?”

In response, PD Choi issued a lengthy statement in April, saying, “I have never once retracted my intention to pay the settlement after signing the agreement,” but explained, “I simply cannot pay because of a lack of ability to generate income.” He also admitted economic hardship, saying, “I can’t even pay my phone bill right now, so the phone was cut off, but the number remains the same.”

Seo Yu Ri’s side responded coldly. Her boyfriend, who is seven years younger and works in the legal field, publicly demanded repayment from PD Choi in April. He pointed out that PD Choi’s claim of being unable to pay even his phone bill contradicts the fact that he is creating new music. He urged PD Choi to fulfill his promise, saying, “If you want to restore your image and reputation, pay up like a man.”

PD Choi has also expressed a different stance from Seo Yu Ri’s side regarding the origins of the debt and divorce negotiations. The two continue to clash over financial issues even after the divorce was finalized.
