A Korean singer and YouTuber in her 40s is facing serious criminal charges after being accused of abusing and neglecting her own teenage daughter, ultimately leading to her death.

According to local media, the Changwon District Court’s Jinju branch held the woman’s first trial on January 15. She is charged with killing her biological daughter, who was a university student on a leave of absence at the time of her death.
Prosecutors allege that the incident took place in September last year at their home in Namhae, South Gyeongsang Province. The singer reportedly worked alongside her daughter in a business that rented out broadcasting equipment. During this period, she is accused of repeatedly assaulting her.

The charges state that she beat her daughter and poured boiling water over her head, causing serious injuries, including scalp wounds and burns. Despite the victim reportedly crying out in pain and showing clear signs of severe injury, she was allegedly left untreated and unattended for more than two days. She later died as a result of her injuries.
During the first court hearing, the singer did not clearly admit or deny the charges. When asked by the judge whether she acknowledged the allegations, she avoided answering directly.

The court decided that the trial would proceed with both a court-appointed lawyer and a privately hired attorney representing her. This decision came after multiple delays caused by repeated changes in her private legal counsel, which had already led to the trial being postponed twice.
