Song Review: TNX – Call Me Back

It’s funny. For years after 2021’s LOUD series ended, I complained about JYP not debuting his winning team while PSY’s TNX were already promoting their music. Yet after only a year of activities, KickFlip has already released more songs than TNX have in their entire life as a group. I guess that’s the benefit of big agency resources, but it also worries me that TNX’s comebacks seem to have become limited to once a year. Hopefully, a January return means the group has more up their sleeves for 2026.

If you must shoot your shot with one digital single, that song better be a knockout. To Call Me Back‘s credit, the track fits nicely within the past few years of TNX music. They continue to pursue a punky pop sound, which has only grown more popular as fifth generation groups widely adopt a rock aesthetic. In a way, TNX were ahead of their time. However, that means they must now compete with a veritable wave of similar songs. With that in mind, I fear Call Me Back will fall by the wayside. Like last year’s For Real, the song is simply not as memorable as so many of its competitors.

Call Me Back has an ultra-familiar approach. Crunchy guitar fuses with anthemic percussion as the guys deliver a mix of rap and vocals with plenty of (perfectly practiced) freewheeling energy. Chanted elements add a sense of scope but can’t overcome a series of limp hooks. The song gets by on its vibe and familiarity. It’s extremely easy to digest. However, I doubt whether I’ll remember it in a year’s time.
