Mexico President’s Request For More BTS Concerts Triggers Massive Reactions

BTS has proved to be a world-class K-Pop group once again.

On January 26, Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, attended a press conference and revealed she had sent a letter to the South Korean President requesting additional dates for BTS’s concert in Mexico.

Many young people were unable to secure tickets for BTS’s upcoming concert in May. Over 150,000 tickets were sold, but over a million people were trying to get seats.

She added that she spoke with local Mexican organizers for BTS’s concerts.

“With only three confirmed performances in Mexico City, I have made a polite, diplomatic request to the President of South Korea to allow BTS to visit more frequently.

I hope we receive a positive response from Korea or that they allow us to screen the concerts. We need to find ways to make this popular group more accessible to young people in Mexico.”

Meanwhile, BTS is set to perform in Mexico City on May 7 and May 9-10. The GNP Seguros Stadium can accommodate up to 60,000 people, with previous performances by BLACKPINK, TWICE, and more

President Sheinbaum also stated that BTS’s Mexico concert was “historic” and requested oversight by authorities to ensure fairness and transparency for the ticket sales process.

On the other hand, tickets for the Mexico performances for all three concerts sold out in 37 minutes.

However, netizens were divided over the President’s request.

    • “They are really going overboard…”
    • “It’s just a gesture… no need to take it seriously.”
    • “It’s just small talk showing that Mexico has a lot of interest in Korea.”
    • It’s probably just social small talk, revealing that BTS is really popular in Mexico.”
    • “It’s because there’s economic impact, not small talk.”
    • “I don’t think that the President is in their right mind…”
    • “I want to go to BTS’s concert, too.”
    • “But why is she sending it to Korea’s president and not the CEO? I’m honestly curious. It’s just interesting that they would send it to the President and not the company.”
    • “They sent it to the President and not to HYBE?”
    • “They mentioned it again…I guess they’re excited that they are holding a concert in Mexico.”
