An actress who gained attention through a mukbang shoot with Sung Si Kyung is facing growing negative reactions after revealing her tattoo.

Recently, Japanese actress Ayaka Miyoshi posted a photo on her personal account wearing a French high jewelry brand, dressed in a black dress that prominently revealed her back. The tattoo on her back features a blue flower motif extending from the nape of her neck down to her waist.

After the tattoo was revealed, social media responses ranged from praises like “truly cool” and “so beautiful,” to over 1,400 negative comments such as “Tattoos have many disadvantages in Japanese life,” “There are people like this sometimes, but no one who later achieved great success. Those who are strong etch in their hearts, not their bodies,” “There will definitely be restrictions on entertainment activities in Japan,” and “She seems lost,” fueling controversy. There were also concerns that the large tattoo reaching near her neck might limit her opportunities as an actress, resulting in divided opinions.

In a media interview, Miyoshi explained her reason for getting the tattoo: “As I turned 30 and tried to start a new chapter in life, the tattoo came to mind. It is proof of my resolve to live true to myself.” She also stated, “Since I knew there would be pros and cons, I had thorough discussions with my agency over two to three years.”

The tattoo was reportedly done by Chinese tattoo artist Chen Jie, known for delicately depicting living creatures like flowers and animals in ink wash painting style.

Miyoshi’s tattoo design features flower buds as it ascends the upper body, blossoming into her birth flower, the hibiscus, behind her heart at the height corresponding to her birthday. The number “1351” tattooed on her waist is said to represent her birth time.

Regarding the negative comments, Miyoshi posted on her account, saying she was “surprised by the bigger-than-expected reaction” and admitted that “sharing all the life she has lived and her wounds is not easy.” She urged followers to read a detailed interview in which she explains her thoughts.

Ayaka Miyoshi gained global recognition through the Netflix series Alice in Borderland and is set to appear in the July release of the film Kingdom: The Decisive Battle of the Soul, as well as the fourth installment of the Korean movie series Tazza.

She also showcased her fluent Korean skills by appearing with Sung Si Kyung in the Netflix show K-Foodie Meets J-Foodie.
