Ahn Hyo-seop and Chae Won-bin take it slow in Sold Out on You
by lovepark
Everyone gets a nickname in SBS’s romantic comedy Sold Out on You from farmer Ahn Hyo-seop (A Time Called You) to show host Chae Won-bin (Who Is She). As they integrate themselves into this countryside community, they learn to heal and connect with the world without the hustle and bustle of the city.
The newest teaser opens with Matthew Lee (Ahn Hyo-seop) getting stuffed to the gills with fresh kimchi while the local townsfolk mispronounce his name and call him Mechuri (quail in Korean). Though a farmer by trade, Matthew is basically the village’s handyman, and no matter the weather, he is out and about doing odd jobs for his neighbors from installing satellite dishes to removing hornet nests.
Matthew is not the only one with a nickname since newcomer Dam Ye-jin (Chae Won-bin) gets one of her own, courtesy of village elder Go Du-shim (Check In Hanyang). Calling Ye-jin “Pretty,” she offers the show host a plethora of snacks, but not before ordering her to catch a chicken — everyone has to earn their keep!
Not to be left out, the director of a global skincare brand — and the third leg of this love triangle — Eric Seo, played by Kim Bum (Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938), comes to town and has his name garbled as well. While Ye-jin finds herself in the middle of two handsome bachelors, a different messy square pops up with Jo Bok-rae (The Practical Guide to Love) and Yoon Byung-hee (Perfect Crown) falling in love with Jo Woo-ri (Men Are Men) and Park Ye-young (Our Unwritten Seoul).
Though the town’s enthusiasm can feel burdensome at times, their sincerity opens even the most closed-off hearts as both Matthew and Ye-jin are unofficially adopted into the family. Especially for our tired show host, her time in the countryside feels like a walk as opposed to a run like her old life, and Matthew agrees that the sun shines brightly here which makes it perfect for a rest.
Directed by PD Ahn Jong-yeon (Seoul Busters) with scripts written by Jin Seung-hee, Sold Out on You is slated for twelve episodes and goes on air April 22 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot with streaming available on Netflix.
