Beloved Actress Opens Up On How Battling Cancer Changed Her Values

A beloved Korean actress confessed how her values in life changed while battling thyroid cancer.

On October 16th, SBS’s entertainment program My Genie Secretary featured Ji Ye Eun and Ji Suk Jin as guests.

On the show, Lee Seo Jin and Kim Kwang Gyu volunteered to be their one-day managers, accompanying them to a fan signing event and music festival held in Chungju.

While talking in the car, they naturally turned their attention to Ji Ye Eun’s current life as she prepares for marriage.

Lee Seo Jin advised her that the prime years are from the mid-30s to 40s, and Ji Ye Eun shared her thoughts on the meaning of happiness.

She said, “Having work makes me happy, but work isn’t everything.” In response, Ji Suk Jin admired that she realized life’s important values earlier than most people her age.

Ji Ye Eun cited her past battle with illness as the reason for this perspective. During a long period without work, she thought she should focus solely on her career, but her outlook changed after experiencing health problems.

She revealed, “When I was sick, I kept thinking I didn’t know when I would die.” Having personally experienced the preciousness of health, she realized that rather than clinging only to work, it’s important to cherish the life and daily happiness she has now.

Ji Ye Eun briefly halted her activities last year due to health issues but returned to SBS’s Running Man after about three weeks. Later, in May, she openly shared on Netflix’s Jae-seok’s B&B Rules! that she had surgery for thyroid cancer.

At that time, Ji Ye Eun said she was told about the possibility of cancer spreading, and that she had a significant amount of cancer discovered in her body. Reflecting on this experience, she expressed gratitude for being able to live healthily now.

Regarding her current health, she explained that she undergoes regular checkups. Hearing her story, Lee Seo Jin offered warm comfort, saying that people who face health issues at a young age often become even more careful about managing their health afterward.

Ji Suk Jin also recalled how Ji Ye Eun stayed strong and cheerful during her illness. Although those around her worried, she maintained a positive attitude, which left a strong impression.
