BTS leader RM got surprisingly candid about the weightage given to social media trends in the group’s latest comeback while discussing the entire making process of ARIRANG on a livestream.

Recently, the rapper hosted a livestream on Weverse, where he gave fans a detailed rundown of the entire album’s making process, song by song. While talking about “Hooligan,” RM reflected on how hard J-Hope and Jungkook worked on the track, and how it essentially set the standard for the rest of the album.

RM then mentioned that the song initially had an intense choreography that was changed after the company and other people gave their two cents. He admitted that the goal with the new choreography was to create a dance challenge with virality potential.

However, the BTS leader also reflected on how futile the efforts to “force” virality were, as their altered choreography failed to become a social media trend. Instead, it was a fan-made dance that shot “Hooligan” into the trending list.
After RM’s livestream, fans realized that the dance previously posted by V and J-Hope was probably the original choreography. This realization has stirred up some mixed responses from fans, with some regretting that BTS didn’t finalize the original version and some being understanding toward the possible pragmatic considerations behind that decision.
