Go Young Wook, a sex offender and former member of the group Roo’ra, has hit another brick wall trying to expand his social media presence.
Earlier, on September 27, Go Young Wook shared a link to a video on his newly created TikTok account through his X (formerly Twitter) account.
The video showed Go Young Wook wearing a black coat, hat, and glasses, with the caption “Last winter…”. This sparked increasing criticism of the sex offender’s activity on TikTok.
In response, TikTok Korea stated on September 28, “After verifying the relevant information, we deleted Go Young Wook’s TikTok account this morning.”
They added, “TikTok permanently suspends not only the accounts but also any other accounts owned by users confirmed to have committed sexual crimes against minors, in accordance with our community guidelines. This measure was also based on those guidelines.”
Ko Young Wook was convicted in 2013 of sexually assaulting and molesting minors and was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison. He was released in 2015 after completing his sentence.
After about five years of self-reflection, he resumed activities by opening an Instagram account in November 2020. Instagram deactivated the account shortly after because it does not allow accounts created by sex offenders.
Go Young Wook’s YouTube channel, created in August 2024, was shut down after about 18 days. YouTube cited its “Creator Responsibility Guidelines” and its policies regulating harmful behavior outside the platform and in communities as the basis for this action.
In response, Go Young Wook claimed, “Just because I’m a convicted criminal doesn’t mean I posted harmful content. Does YouTube have the right to apply non-existent rules only to one individual? I have served all legal punishments. Why can some people do certain things, but others can’t? Is this really fair?”
