One half of a celebrity couple is letting their fans know that they’re no longer together, but also clarifying the circumstances surrounding the breakup.
Hong Kong actress Virginia Lau has confirmed that her relationship with actor Andrew Pong has come to an end, closing the chapter on a romance that many fans believed was headed toward marriage. The couple first revealed their relationship publicly in 2024 and quickly became one of the most closely followed pairs in Hong Kong’s entertainment scene.
Last year, Pong shared that he had begun thinking about proposing to Lau, fueling speculation that the couple’s future together might soon include marriage. However, breakup rumors began shortly after Valentine’s Day, when both stars posted messages that seemed to hint at a possible split. Lau wrote about “returning to the simplicity of being on my own,” while Pong also shared a more poetic message, describing a relationship he called “irreplaceable.”
At a public event in Mong Kok, Lau confirmed to reporters that the relationship had indeed ended, revealing that, after careful consideration, she initiated the breakup. She said that over time, she and Pong realized that their personalities weren’t compatible, and she believed that they would both be better off if they broke up.
Will Lau and Pong stay friends? When asked this, Lau said it was difficult to say at the moment, but she wishes her ex well.
