Chainsaws and brain transplants in Doctor Shin
by tccolb
Leaving all sense and reason at the door, TV Chosun makes anything possible in the melo-thriller world of Doctor Shin. And the makjang meter is only rising higher as we meet more of the story characters in the newest poster and video teaser.
At the center of this chaos is Jung Yi-chan (Love Song for Illusion) playing Shin Joo-shin, the ~genius~ neurosurgeon at Nua hospital and the chairman of Nua’s charity foundation. Right from the teaser’s get go, Joo-shin is asked the very problematic question of whether he can administer euthanasia on his own fiancée: Baek Seo-ra in the role of top star actress Momo.
You see, Momo suffers from brain damage and remains unconscious after a tragic accident. And though we aren’t given the particulars, I suspect the infamous Truck of Doom. Joo-shin is then persuaded by Momo’s desperate mom Song Ji-in (Concrete Market) to essentially perform a double transplant, swapping the brains between Momo and her mom.
Adding to the spider web of twisted connections, we also meet journalist Geum Ba-ra – played by Joo Se-bin (The Empire) – who had a troubled childhood and was once entrusted at Nua’s orphanage. Remembering Ba-ra from grade school, game developer Ha Yong-joong – played by Ahn Woo-yeon (I Dol I) – reaches out. And he’s apologetic when he learns about her upbringing.
Yong-joong is also good friends with Joo-shin and it’s the latter who comforts our heroine with a hug. But by the time the teaser comes to an end, it’s Yong-joong running out hand-in-hand with Momo. Or is it Momo’s mom?
Also starring Chun Young-min (Night Has Come), Jeon No-min (First Lady), and Ji Young-san (Durian’s Affair), TV Chosun’s Doctor Shin is slated to premiere on March 14 next week. The 16-episode tale will be broadcasting on weekends, with production led by PD Lee Seung-hoon and writer Im Sung-han (Durian’s Affair, Princess Aurora), who worked together previously on Love ft. Marriage & Divorce I and II.
