Choi Hyun-wook writes Notes from the Last Row to Choi Min-shik

Class begins this week with Notes from the Last Row on Netflix and the final leg of promos include a sneak preview as well as more character stills, featuring the suspense series leads: Choi Min-shik (Big Bet) and Choi Hyun-wook (My Dearest Nemesis).
The story takes us to Yeonseo University (a spoof on the real-life Yonsei University), where the brusque and eccentric Heo Mun-oh (Choi Min-shik) is a literature professor. And his interest is piqued when the semester brings Lee Kang (Choi Hyun-wook) to his course. Kang is the boy who always sits in the last row. But he’s also the boy who has a gift for writing.
Recognizing the rarity of his student’s natural talent, Mun-oh then calls Kang over for a chat. On the surface, the scene is a wise professor proposing to take the still-learning youngster under his wing. Yet, there’s so much at play in this one conversation (a masterclass in acting by Choi Min-shik), what with Kang poking Mun-oh’s sore spot. Not to mention the twist to this mentoring arrangement now that Mun-oh will be paying for Kang’s time.
Although only featured in the stills, the drama’s main lineup also includes Mun-oh’s wife Jin Kyung (Spring Fever), in addition to Mun-oh’s college friend and rival Heo Jun-ho (Mercy for None), along with his wife Kim Yun-jin (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area).
Stacking up the papers for a 6-episode tale on Friday, June 26, Netflix’s upcoming Notes from the Last Row is based on the Spanish play El chico de la última fila, by Juan Mayorga. The drama remake has scripts adapted by screenwriter Jang Myung-woo (Bogota: City of the Lost), with PD Kim Kyu-tae (The Trunk, Our Blues) at the helm.
