Usually, when an idol or other celebrity commits a serious enough crime, they are unable to return to the industry. Even stars just accused of certain behaviors deal with having their activities halted or suspended.

However, one former boy group member has tried doing so, not once, but twice. In 2012, the boy group B.A.P made their debut under TS Entertainment.

The group, though popular, suffered under the company, ultimately leading to their departure and a slowdown in activities. Just before this, however, in September 2018, it was revealed that member Himchan was under investigation for sexually harassing a woman.

In 2021, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison for this crime, only to be accused of sexually assaulting two more women five days after pleading guilty, with an additional case being discovered and investigated at the same time.

This final assault happened in May 2022, when he molested a victim, filmed it illegally, and sent it to her a month later. He was sentenced to 5 years’ probation for this charge in early 2024, something that outraged netizens.

Between these charges, Himchan attempted to return to music following his 2020 solo debut, holding live events in Tokyo in July and August 2022.

After this, outside of legal updates, there were few updates on the idol until a post in 2024 appeared to show him in Korea’s 성범죄자 알림e app, an app from the Korean Government that discloses the information about sex offenders, including location, crime, and images.

Even after these convictions, the idol maintained a fanbase that continued to support his activities, including when his past official account shared the Soundcloud of an anonymous user “Unknown Artist.” Fans seemed to believe this was Himchan, releasing music without attaching his name.

A majority of the account’s posts are from a few years ago, but some, including one from just 9 months ago, show more recent updates.

Another idol convicted of a sex crime has also returned to the spotlight, which you can read about below.
