A well-known composer A, who has been active in the domestic music industry for many years, has been caught up in sexual harassment allegations and is now facing disciplinary procedures.
According to an exclusive report by MBN on the 23rd, composer A, in his 60s and affiliated with the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), is about to be disciplined after it was revealed that he engaged in inappropriate behavior toward a female staff member within the association.
The issue came to light after the female employee who claimed to be the victim filed a report directly with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The ministry, after verifying the facts, reportedly requested KOMCA to take relevant measures.
It is reported that A made sexually harassing remarks toward the female employee during company dinners and other occasions. The victim is said to be suffering from mental distress because of the incident. Notably, A reportedly admitted to his inappropriate behavior during the investigation, intensifying the controversy.
Following the fact-finding, the ministry instructed KOMCA to separate the perpetrator and the victim in the workplace and demanded follow-up measures including severe disciplinary action. KOMCA plans to hold a board meeting that day to discuss the level of discipline for A and measures to prevent recurrence.
A has been active as a composer since the mid-1980s, producing numerous hit songs. He has also served multiple terms as an auditor for KOMCA since 2008, acting as a key figure within the association.
KOMCA will decide on the final disciplinary measures and their extent based on the board’s discussion results.
